Getting Started

Grocery Shopper is in development. Not all functionality is available yet.

Grocery Shopper is tested using Firefox, Safari and Chrome browsers.

Start your modern web browser and open the Grocery Shopper web app(web page).

When you first start, it may take a minute for data to display. You will be prompted to acknowledge the use of cookies and may be prompted to allow use of the microphone. You may also see a "sound" button in the upper right. Clicking the "sound" button will enable Sound Mode. You can always enable or disable Sound Mode from the tri-bar (hamburger) menu.

Grocery Shopper supports 3 personal lists: "My New List", "My Usual List" and "Things I Buy". "My New List" is the new shopping list you want to create. "My Usual List" is your typical weekly shopping list which can be used as a template for your new list. Loading "My Usual List" into "My New List" gives you a starting point that you can quickly edit. The "Things I Buy" list is intended to store all the proucts and brands that you prefer to simplify searching and selecting from all the products in the store. Buttons at the top of the app let you select which list to view.

Each list tab displays your scrollable list, a new entry form and some operation buttons.

The scrollable list items have a checkbox, an edit pencil popup button, and the quantity and item descriptions. Click the edit pencil icon to edit the item.

The checkbox can be used to "hide" items on your list or to indicate that you've put the item in your shopping cart. By hiding checked items you can easily see what's left to get.

The new entry form below the scrollable list lets you easily add a new item to the list. When you start typing in the item text box an auto-search function displays some options you may which to select.

Your lists are stored in browser-managed memory. If you clear cookies or site data manually or automatically on closing the browser, the list data will be lost. You can optionally save list data in a file on your platform and reload the data using hamburger (tri-bar) menu at the top of the app.

Grocery Shopper works either on or off line. Certain features and databases are only available when on-line. Software updates may also automatically occur when you start Grocery Shopper when on-line.

Audio Mode

Browsers which support the Web Speech API and have voices available will display a sound "Stat / Yes" button in the upper right for a limited time upon loading. Pressing the "Stat / Yes" button will enable sound and display four other floating buttons. Sound can be enabled or disabled at any time using the tri-bar menu and then checking "Enable Audio". The "Stat / Yes" button is then used to announce status. During any list announcement, pressing the "Stat / Yes" button selects the current list item for action. Use the "List / No" button (upper left) to step through a list or announce upcoming events from the current display. Use the Menu/Edit button to step back in a list, The "Quiet / Reset" button (lower left) terminates an announcement and "resets" the audio button state machine. The "Menu / Edit" button allows the announciation of the main menu items list. It is also used to navigate back in a list or to edit the search command.

Note: Grocery Shopper operation and Audio Mode is not compatible with Voice Over. Tell Siri "Turn off Voice Over".
